SHRM Conference a Big Success for HRL
The 2011 SHRM Conference proved to be a wonderful event for HR Logistics. Starting with multiple opportunities to present, an interview as an expert and thought leader, a quote in the SHRM Conference newsletter and finally – the opportunity to meet many wonderful HR professionals who identified with our message about Human Risk Management.
I have been involved with Human Resources for over 20 years now and in all that time, HR has struggled to improve its reputation and eliminate its association with “soft skills only.” Efforts to improve the perception of HR as a true “business partner” have failed – I believe in large part due to the absence of real strategic thinking in HR professionals. As a matter of fact, last year I wrote a blog post (read here) noting the absence of HR professionals making a conscious effort to show the alignment of HR initiatives with overall business goals. Consequently, I am very excited to see this change!
At the conference, I discovered many individuals who were hungry for our content – content that provided clear links between business analytics, methodologies and HR initiatives. There is a rising tide of HR professionals that are business savvy and see the financial and operational connections between people and organizational health and are seeking ways to measure and communicate those connections. This is more than workforce analytics. It is analytical leadership. It is people measurements according to value not costs. And it is the next revolution of HR.
Kudos to those HR professionals that are raising the bar!
